Once upon a time, only the very priviledged lived here...

Buckland Villa, as it was known then, was built circa 1865 by Alderman Thomas Muddeman, the fourth Mayor of Royal Leamington Spa

Muddeman was born in nearby Warwick, moved to Leamington in 1840, where he spent nearly 50 years in public life. During this  period, Leamington Spa

experienced rapid growth, and his contribution to the town's development was

significant.

Thomas Muddeman died in March 1887, and Buckland House was sold by auction in 1888. The sale notice

described the property as "Highly Valuable".

Ownership of Buckland House passed on to a succession of prominent Leamington residents, who left their mark by extending the original building in the 1920’s and 1980's.

By the latter half of the 20th century, Buckland House was considered too large to be a single family home. Consequently, it was converted into a boutique hotel, which ran, till recently.

On it’s 150th Anniversary, Buckland House is undergoing extensive renovation, and has now been converted in six residential apartments.

This research has been undertaken by the developers, and the details above obtained from public records and those persons associated with the property.
